Chance to work with Jack too tempting for Potter

-

Former Dunfermline coach John Potter insists his 17 months at Sunderland were an invaluable learning curve.

However, he could not turn down the prospect of an Easter Road reunion with Jack Ross.

Potter, who was in charge of the Pars’ under-20 side, has been named as Hibs’ assistant head coach as Ross wastes no time in putting his stamp on the capital club.

The 39-year-old was highlyregarded at the Stadium of Light and boss Phil Parkinson was open to him remaining on the club’s new management staff.

However, when Potter made it known that he wanted to return north of the border, an amicable separation was struck and he embarked on a whirlwind return to work in Scotland.

“I loved my time at Sunderland,” said Potter. “I learned a lot, in terms of dealing with different players, personalities, the clubs and the fans.

“But when the opportunity came to work with Jack again, especially at a massive club like Hibs, it was one that I wanted to take.”

Potter has no doubt that Ross has the character and coaching credentials to lift the Hibees out of the doldrums following the Paul Heckingbottom era.

Ahead of Saturday’s visit of Motherwell, Potter added: “I’ve known Jack for a long time and worked with him in a coaching capacity for 18 months now and he is determined to bring success.

“Jack is a very good man manager, he likes to coach and is a bright guy. I know he wants to take this club to the top end of the league and that is our aim and ambition at Hibs.”
