Nectar has taste for success

Switch to seven furlongs should suit hat-trick seeker

TASTE THE NECTAR is on a roll at present and can bring up her hat-trick in the 32Red Nursery Handicap at Kempton.

Robert Cowell’s runner got off the mark at the seventh attempt when scoring over six furlongs at Chelmsford, finishing with a real flourish to run out a length-and-a-quarter winner of what was probably an average novice heat.

Taste The Nectar then made the switch to back to handicap company at the same track, after a couple of unsuccessful runs in that sphere in the summer, defying a less than ideal passage and a career-high mark to grab a neck victory on the line.

She did well to come from down the field to win in the final strides and given the fact she was staying on strongly, a switch up to seven furlongs on her return to Kempton makes sense.

THRILLA IN MANILLA should be given a chance to redeem himself in the Bet At racingtv.com Novice Stakes.

Richard Spencer had high hopes for the Iffraaj colt this season, with Classic trials mentioned as a possibility after a visually impressive debut at Newbury last October.

Eight subsequent winners emerged from that maiden, but Thrilla In Manilla did not reappear until last month when he finished last in the Bengough Stakes at Ascot.

That result probably does not reflect his true ability, because he was far too keen and gave himself little chance of taking a hand in the finish.

Thrilla In Manilla should have lost that freshness now with a run under his bel and, dropped back from Group Three company, he may get his career back on track.
