Iheanacho keeps Foxes in hunt with late winner

PREMIER LEAGUE: Leicester deliver blow to under-fire Everton boss with stoppage-time goal

- NICK MASHITER

Kelechi Iheanacho’s stoppage-time strike continued Leicester’s red-hot form and piled more misery on Everton boss Marco Silva.

The substitute scored his first Premier League goal since September 2018 to give Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes a dramatic 2-1 win, their sixth straight victory.

The hosts faced an agonising wait before VAR gave the goal after the striker had initially been flagged offside.

Gutsy Everton had looked on course to earn a point and ease the pressure on head coach Silva. Richarlison gave the Toffees a first-half lead but Jamie Vardy’s 13th goal of the season levelled.

Leicester climbed back to second in the table, eight points adrift of Liverpool.

Everton now go to Anfield for Wednesday’s derby with the leaders just two points above the drop zone and with Silva clinging on to his job.

Freddie Ljungberg failed to end Arsenal’s winless streak as his first game in caretaker charge of the Gunners ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw at Norwich.

The former midfielder took over following the sacking of Unai Emery on Friday and immediately made his mark on the side, bringing in the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka.

However, they went behind against the run of play in the 21st minute when Teemu Pukki’s shot deflected in.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled in controversial circumstances eight minutes later, from the penalty spot.

After Tim Krul saved the striker’s first spot-kick, it was ordered to be retaken and Aubameyang made no mistake second time around.

Todd Cantwell put Norwich ahead again on the stroke of half-time, but Aubameyang’s second grabbed a point for the visitors, who are now without a win in eight matches in all competitions.

Tyrone Mings’ equaliser salvaged Aston Villa a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jack Grealish’s stunning effort put the visitors in front in the 11th minute, but United turned the game around either side of half-time.

Tom Heaton’s own goal was followed by Victor Linedlof’s effort, only for Mings to immediately reply for Villa.

Wolves and Sheffield United both continued shared the points from a 1-1 draw at Molineux.

Liverpool had beaten Brighton 2-1 on Saturday after champions Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw at Newcastle in the early kick-off.

The Reds made the most of their title rivals twice being pegged back but it was a nervous victory at Anfield as they finished with 10 men following the dismissal of goalkeeper Alisson in the second half.

West Ham won 1-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge while Dele Alli scored twice as Tottenham beat Bournemouth 3-2.
