Wilson not giving up on battling side

BRECHIN CITY 1 STENHOUSEMUIR 2

Brechin City manager Mark Wilson is adamant the tide will turn following a 2-1 defeat at home to Stenhousemuir.

City have failed to pick up any points from their last six matches with their last victory coming way back in September when they defeated Elgin City, and they remain anchored at the bottom of the League 2 table, four points adrift of second bottom Albion Rovers who have played a game less.

Despite those stark statistics, Wilson remains upbeat that City can still come good.

“It’s obviously difficult for the players at the moment,” he said.

“I was on the receiving end when I was a player with a run of defeats but if the boys keep believing, keep doing the right things and keep putting in the effort – and the effort that they put in today was magnificent – then things will turn and the breaks will begin to go our way.

“It’s important that we keep the right attitude.

“No one likes being on a losing run but it can turn quickly and that’s what we’ve got to believe.

“One victory can transform things.

“We’re only just going into December and there’s more than half of the season left and still a long, long way to go.”

The Warriors grabbed the opening goal after 16 minutes when a Jonathan Tiffoney shot was parried by City keeper Lewis McMinn, with the ball spinning into the path of Alan Cook who drilled home a blistering left-foot drive.

City hit back immediately after the break and they grabbed the equaliser within the first five minutes when on-loan St Johnstone youngster Olly Hamilton raced down the right flank and swung over an inchperfect cross for Ryan McCord who powered a header past former City goalkeeper Graeme Smith.

Both sides pushed forward in an effort to find the decisive second goal and unfortunately for City it came the visitors’ way with 20 minutes remaining when Tiffoney played a short pass to Dylan Dykes who curled a superb right-foot drive into the top corner of the net.
