Dobbie points finger at Dark Blues fans

The Dundee fans contributed to their team’s weekend defeat, according to Queen of the South goal hero Stephen Dobbie.

The Palmerston legend scored both goals in the Dumfries side’s 2-1 victory at Dens, the Dark Blues’ third successive Championship defeat.

And Dobbie pointed out that early boos from the home supporters when the scoreline was still 0-0 aided the visitors’ cause.

“I don’t think the crowd have helped them,” said the veteran forward. “Previous times I’ve played here the fans have been brilliant and have got behind their teams.

“Mistakes do happen, especially at the level we’re playing at.

“Fifteen minutes in they started booing some of their players. We tried to take advantage of that and make them make mistakes.

“It definitely helps us. We set up to press them and then they maybe go and kick the ball out the park, so the fans start getting on to them.

“So it’s a case of let’s go again and get the next one.”

Dundee boss James McPake, however, had no complaints with his team being booed off.

“It’s not a cliché or a cry for anything,” he said.

“I get why they’re booing and reacting like that.

“It’s not good enough. I can see it’s not good enough and we know it’s not good enough.

“We need to find a way to excite the fans and for 15 minutes you could say we did that.

“I’ve said from the start that if we play well, they’ll get behind us. That’s what we need to do.

“Fans hurt as much as anyone. I totally get why they were booing and showing their dissatisfaction at the end.

“If I were one, I can guarantee I’d be doing the exact same thing.”
