No sell-on fee in Kamara deal

-

If Glen Kamara makes a big money move away from Rangers, Dundee won’t be getting a slice of the transfer fee, Courier Sport understands.

Juventus were linked at the weekend with an £8 million January bid for the midfielder, who was snapped up for £50,000 from the Dark Blues 11 months ago.

There was no sell-on clause in the deal. Rangers held a strong hand at the time as Kamara had already signed a pre-contract agreement with them to move at the end of the season. Also, Jim McIntyre needed all the funds he could get his hands on to try to reshape the squad he inherited from Neil McCann.

Kamara had dropped out of the first team picture at Dens.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitted on Sunday that he would expect “top clubs” to be keeping an eye on the Finland international but dismissed reports of an imminent Juventus bid.

“There’s a lot going round at the moment about quite a few of my players but there’s no truth in it,” said the Rangers manager.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s top clubs looking at Glen – again he was outstanding, lovely to watch – and as a midfielder myself I really admire his bodywork and his shape, the way he receives the ball.

“He’s a very clever footballer and it wouldn’t surprise me if top clubs were monitoring him but there’s no truth in Juventus.”

Meanwhile, Danny Johnson scored in a Reserve League Cup clash with Dunfermline, which ended in a 1-1 draw (the Pars won the penalty shoot-out bonus point).

Paul McGowan and Shaun Byrne also got game-time in the tie at Station Park, Forfar.
