Karter Chloe scoops Junior Gold Award at national level
Perth karter Chloe Grant has been unveiled as the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club Junior GoldStar Award winner.
Perth High pupil Chloe, 13, was among five nominees for the prestigious UK award at the Autosport International Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
The judging panel featured BWRDC GoldStars Initiative founder Helen Bashford-Malkie, president Lorina McLaughlin, television commentator Louise Goodman and Motor Sport UK International training manager
Sue Sanders. “It was amazing to be shortlisted for the award so to win was incredible, especially with so many top young female drivers in the country,” said Chloe, who began karting at the age of eight.
“The Birmingham event was super and I made some great contacts in the motor racing world.”
The awards are aimed at encouraging under-25 racing talent and Chloe is the youngest driver to have been honoured by the BWRDC.
The Junior GoldStar package includes Mercedes F1 and Prodrive tours, time on an iZone simulator, personal mentoring, media training, perfume, jewellery and racing gear.
Chloe was third in the BWRDC Kart Championship and featured on their role of honour for race wins and fastest laps in 2019.
Chloe had already captured the Scottish Motor Racing Club’s Rising Star award in November.
She is the youngest recipient to date.
The Scottish award was recognition for winning the East of Scotland Kart Club Championship, finishing second in the North of Scotland and third in Grampian.
The final two races of this season’s W Series will be on the undercard of Formula One’s United States and Mexican grands prix.
The all-female motor racing championship has announced a new eight-race calendar for 2020.
The campaign will end in Austin, Texas, and Mexico City on back-to-back weekends in October and November.
