TITLE FOR DUNDEE HAWKHILL

The East of Scotland Cross-Country League completed its winter season at Deans, Livingston, where Dundee Hawkhill claimed the U17 Men’s League title.

Over the 6.4km course, the Hawkhill trio of Ryan Smith (6th, 23.14), Ewan Smith (18th, 25.40) and Ryan Fox (20th, 27.30) finished third on the day but over the season secured enough points to claim the GK Aithie Shield as league champions. Hamish Hickey won the men’s 9.8km race in 31 minutes and 08 seconds to lead Central AC to first place on the day and the league title. Edinburgh University’s Zoe Pflug headed the women’s 6.4km race in 23 minutes and 41 seconds and, with four runners in the top six, were runaway team winners, fine preparation for the British Universities/ Colleges race at Holyrood Park in two weeks’ time.

Jen Spence, who finished seventh, led Fife AC to second team place but it was Edinburgh AC who claimed the overall senior women’s league title. Perth Road Runners celebrated their first ever league title as their veteran women, second on the day behind Edinburgh, totalled 164 points over the season, topping Carnegie’s 183 points. Perth’s Julie Ramsay was 35th/ninth veteran and was backed up by Claire Douglas in 51st/16th and Gillian McGuire in 62nd/24th. Struan Bennet took second place for Fife AC in the U15 Boys’ race while team colleague Isla Thoms secured second in the U15 Girls’ race. Edinburgh AC’s table-topping in the senior women’s, U17/U16 Girls’ and U11 Girls’ categories saw the capital club take the overall aggregate female trophy, while Aberdeen claimed the male aggregate trophy. Leading results: Senior Men 9.6km.
