Lewis urges Dons to sweep aside Well with repeat display

-

Aberdeen captain Joe Lewis hopes the Dons can again turn on the style when they face Motherwell tomorrow.

Three exquisite goals from Sam Cosgrove, Niall McGinn and Zak Vyner earned the Dons an impressive 3-0 win over the Steelmen in October.

Stephen Robinson’s side went into that Firhill encounter brimming with confidence after five wins in six games but the Dons swept them away with a swashbuckling display.

Lewis hopes for more of the same when the team immediately above them in the table visits Pittodrie.

He said: “It is a huge game on Wednesday and I am really looking forward to it.

“The last time we played them we won 3-0 and scored three brilliant goals.

“Since then Motherwell have been very consistent and have been winning game after game.

“It should be an excellent game that we will be looking to win. Yes, it was one of our best performancesalongwithour3-0 win over Kilmarnock.

“It was away from home against difficult opposition and we did really well with a lot of players playing out of position.

“We filled the gaps with the injuries we had and did really well.”

Lewis had one of his quietest afternoons in an Aberdeen shirt as the Dons progressed to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win against Dumbarton.

The Dons registered 27 attempts at goal while their League 1 opponents failed to have a shot on target during a one-sided 90 minutes.

The Dons captain said: “The important thing about any cup game is getting through to the next round.

“I don’t remember them actually having a chance, apart from a clearance that dropped to me.

“It was an easy job for me because the defence all did their jobs, especially the two centre halves who completely nullified anything that came their way.”
