DUNDEE: Midfielder signs new contract – and targets promotion

Dorrans, who moved to Dens in September after being freed by Rangers, saidhewas delighted toget theDensdeal done.

He said :“It’ s been a great period for me, getting back to playing week after week.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club. The players and staff have been brilliant with me.

“I’ ve bought into and feel excited about what the club is trying to achieve with bringing through the young players. I’m enjoying working with them and helping them.

“The club’ s ambition remains the same as when I came in, to get Dundee back to the Premier ship, and I’ m hoping to play a major part in making that happen.”

The Dens side have started 2020 with a whimper rather than a bang.

And if they don’t stop conceding “rubbish” goals that won’t change anytime soon, Declan McDaid has admitted.

It has been two defeats from two since the turn of the year and the Dark Blues’ winger pointed out that it is no mystery where they need to improve to get their first win of the calendar year at Dunfermline tomorrow night.

“We need to stop giving away rubbish goals and giving teams leads,” said the former Ayr United man.

“Motherwell are a good side, third in the Premiership, but we won’t give ourselves a chance giving away goals like we did. We need to keep ourselves in the game and create chances like we did in the second half. They are a good team but we made it easy for them.

“Teams don’t have to work for their goals against us. Starting games right gives us a chance.”

McDaid added: “The good thing about football is there’s always another game.

“We have to put Mother well behind us.

“We wanted a run in the cup but now we’ll have to put all our focus on the league and finish strongly. That starts with Dunfermline. The Inverness game wasn’t great, then the Ayr game was off and Saturday wasn’t good.

“We know we have a great squad but we need results. I’m sure it will click.”

McDaid has been sidelined for a few weeks and came through the Mother well match unscathed.

“It is good to be back playing again and amongst it. I have missed it,” he said.

“It was only four weeks but you miss being out with the boys. That’s the only positive for me on Saturday. I got through the game alright and can kick on.”

Former Dundee defender Jack Hen dry ,24, has sealed a loan switch from Celtic to A-League outfit Melbourne City.

The 24-year-old made just 18 starts for the Hoops since a £1.5m transfer from the Dark Blues two years ago.
