An NHS Tayside employee has been voted Scottish PA of the Year at a national ceremony.

Wendy Meldrum from Newtyle won the award at the Annual Conference for Executive Secretaries and PAs in Scotland.

She is employed as an allied health professionals (AHP) support officer and project lead at the health authority.

Modest Wendy said it felt amazing to be nominated for the award.

She said: “To me I am just doing my job. To be recognised and shown appreciation for work that I enjoy doing just makes it all the better. Then to be shortlisted to the final three and win the award – I was completely overwhelmed but absolutely delighted.”

The awards recognise the work of professionals who strive for excellence and go beyond the call of duty. Wendy was the only finalist in the health and social care sector.

She was nominated by Karen Anderson, director of AHP for NHS Tayside, who said: “Wendy is genuinely an outstanding PA – organised and efficient, she is a critical and fabulous member of the team.

“No ask is too small and no challenge too big. She supports five staff on a daily basis, is our lead for the quarterly newsletter, delivers training on poster design, answers IT queries, co-ordinates our webpage and social media and welcomes the opportunity to give people experience in administration.”

Wendy is also the first PA to secure an NHS Education Scotland (NES) AHP Careers fellowship.

“Her project was deemed critical and innovative so she was awarded a year’s funding for training and dedicated time to lead a project,” added Karen.
