Wilson calls on ‘resilient’ City to add attacking edge to their game

-

Brechin manager Mark Wilson was pleased to see some solidity in his bottom of the table side at the weekend – however, he will look to have a more attacking edge against Queen’s Park tonight.

Wilson said: “We went to Edinburgh City and held the second top side to a goalless draw.

“They have a good record at home and I wanted us to show that we could handle that.

“We showed a lot of resilience in our play and that is not something we have had a lot of this season.”

The strength at the back came about through design with Wilson saying: “We went into the game with a different shape.

“It was designed to make us hard to beat and it worked with Alex Petkov, who came in from Hearts on loan, looking the part in our defence.”

Wilson will look for the same rearguard strength against Queen’s.

However, he would like to add more of an attacking edge as he explained: “It was important that we showed that we could defend properly and we did that but the downside was that we did not create too much.

“We need to change that as we need wins to pull other teams close to us so we will look to attack.”

Ross Brown continues to be ruled out with the midfielder set for a longer spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed that he had suffered a hairline fracture to his ankle.

Spiders head coach Ray McKinnon is out to defeat the club that gave him the chance to be a senior manager – even if it pushes City further towards a fight for senior survival.

McKinnon said: “I remain grateful to Brechin for the opportunity they gave me in 2012.

“There are good people there who gave me the manager’s job after managing Lochee United and coaching with the Scottish FA.”

“We challenged for promotion to the Championship twice via the play-offs so I am disappointed to see where they are now. I hope that they can get out of it but only after this game.”
