Woman in hospital after falling from coastal path

Extent of injuries unknown

A woman is in hospital after falling from a Fife coastal path, prompting an emergency rescue.

Police, coastguard and paramedics were scrambled to the Chain Walk in Elie at 4pm yesterday.

The woman was rescued in the twohour operation and taken to hospital. The extent of her injuries was not known.

A spokesman for the Scottish Coastguard said: “We received a call at 4.02pm this afternoon indicating that a female had fallen at Chain Walk on the coastline at Elie.

“A lifeboat was dispatched from Anstruther station and coastguard officers from Leven and St Andrews also attended.”

The coastguard officers left the scene at 6.20pm.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “Police were called around 4.10pm to assist colleagues in the ambulance service and coastguard following a report of a woman having fallen from the cliffs in the Shell Bay area.

“The woman has been taken to hospital for assessment.”

Meanwhile, in Angus, a man from Kirriemuir was taken to hospital with a serious injury.

Five police vehicles, including a riot van, and an ambulance were in Sheilhall Road yesterday afternoon, around the Thrums takeaway area. One police car remained at the scene into the evening.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “We received a report of concern for a person within a flat on Shielhill Road, Kirriemuir, around 12.15pm on Wednesday May 20.

“We attended alongside the ambulance service. A 36-year-old man was taken to Ninewells Hospital with a serious injury.

“Nobody else was involved.”
