The head teacher of a Perthshire primary school has demanded police step up patrols around the property after evidence of drug use was found on the grounds.

Catharine Findlay, head of Auchtergaven Primary in Bankfoot, called on parents to speak to their children after three clear plastic bags, commonly used to carry drugs, were discovered at the school.

The pouches were found on Saturday alongside broken alcohol bottles of MD2020, litter and other signs of antisocial behaviour.

The discarded items were in an area that will be used as an outdoor classroom when children return next month.

Mrs Findlay said: “The outdoor classroom is once again being used inappropriately and mess being left for others to clean up.

“This will become a key space for learning when we return in August and hope to be outdoors more.

“Fencing will be going around it soon and I have asked the police to increase their presence around the school grounds as there is evidence of drug use.

“There is also a lot of glass which I have been unable to clean up.”

Ex-Strathtay ward councillor John Kellas said the incident should serve as a “wake-up call” for the area.

Mr Kellas said: “I think it has happened on two or three occasions.

“It appears that people were taking drugs of some kind.”

Police Scotland also reported incidents of vandalism at a nearby school the weekend before.

Officers launched an investigation after a storage box, plastic slide and gazebo were damaged at Luncarty Primary on June 28.

Police were contacted for comment on the Auchtergaven Primary School incident.
