Urgent and drastic action is required to tackle Scotland’s drug death shame, as figures show the country’s death rate is higher than any other in the developed world. Thirteen people in Angus died a drug induced death in 2018, 11 of whom had consumed an opiate like heroin, morphine or methadone. A total of 109 people perished in Tayside last year from drug-related causes. Across Scotland, 1,187 deaths were recorded. Campaigners said the time for talking “should have finished years ago” and pleaded for action.
