A day’s takings and PPE served up to charity by takeaway staff

-

Staff at a Perth takeaway have handed over a day’s takings, as well as boxes of PPE and cleaning supplies, to a charity supporting victims of sexual abuse.

The team at Must Eat gave more than £420 to Perth and Kinross’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (RASAC).

Boss Laeeq Rehman donated the July 7 proceeds of his North Methven Street branch to the charity.

Regular customers donated more than four crates of cleaning equipment, PPE and bags of food and taxi vouchers, which staff handed over to RASAC chief Jen Stewart.

The project, which was supported by local group Perth Welfare Society – an organisation set up to support Perthshire residents of minority ethnicity backgrounds – was the latest in a string of charity giveaways by Must Eat.

Management have been dishing out meals to local care homes, hostels and charities throughout lockdown.

Speaking previously, manager Laeeq said he hoped this move would change stigmas about Asian attitudes towards the issues RASAC deal with.

He said: “One of my close family friends works at RASAC and told me about the work they do.

“I didn’t know much about them before, but they do amazing work that helps so many people.

“One of our staff even donated her wages from the charity night to RASAC.”

Next up for the city centre takeaway team is preparing their Eid al-Adha celebrations this weekend.

The team is hoping to raise spirits with a free breakfast at its base on Friday.

Also organised in conjunction with the Perth Welfare Society, time slots must be booked in advance.
