Three-year-old girl killed in village road tragedy
Child dies in hospital after being struck by a car yesterday morning
A Fife community has been left devastated after the death of a threeyear-old girl in a road tragedy.
The little girl died in hospital after being struck by a car on Main Street, Townhill, yesterday morning.
The horrific incident happened outside the Day-Today convenience store at around 10.10am.
It is understood the child had been in the shop with a relative before the tragedy happened.
There were reports from people living locally that she had run out of the shop and on to the road.
The girl’s family are understood to live locally.
One local man said the girl’s death would stay with the village “for years to come”.
He added: “For this to happen to a three-year-old makes everyone stop and think.”
Ronnie Cowan, who chairs Townhill Community Council, said: “Everybody is devastated and their thoughts are with the family, and all the families involved.”
According to local sources, members of the public attempted to administer first aid at the scene while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance crew.
The girl was rushed to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with serious injuries and died a short time later.
It is understood the air ambulance was scrambled but turned back after it was decided to convey the young casualty to hospital by road.
The driver of a blue Nissan Micra which was involved in the collision was uninjured.
Police in Fife have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information which could help the investigation, to contact officers.
They have appealed for anyone with either dashcam or CCTV footage which could assist officers to get in touch.
Sergeant Stephen Quinn, of Road Policing East, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of those involved with this tragic incident and I would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.
“Our inquiries continue into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and we would ask that if anyone has any information that they contact officers.
“I would also ask that if anyone has any possible dashcam or CCTV footage of the area to get in touch with police.
“Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 0933 of Monday August 3 2020.”
