Head teacher warns parents not to congregate on school grounds

- SCOTT MILNE

The head teacher of a Dundee school has warned parents could be banned from entering the playground if they do not stop congregating outside the buildings.

Forthill Primary School head teacher Alison Macgregor wrote to parents and carers after seeing “very little” social distancing between them when dropping off children.

Only one adult per household is now permitted on the grounds when taking children to and from the school.

She cited the situation at Kingspark School, which has closed after a number of positive Covid-19 cases were identified, to stress the importance of social distancing.

Kingspark will remain closed until at least Monday after a further two adults connected to the campus tested positive for Covid-19.

A total of eight adults are now confirmed to have caught the virus.

Ms Macgregor said: “There are now some cases of Covid in Dundee and the information we have is that transmission has been between adults.

“We are doing everything we can in school to minimise any risk of transmission.

“I noticed this morning that there are high numbers of parents in the infant playground on and after the 9am bell and that there was very little social distancing between the adults.

“Therefore, I am asking that only one adult per household should be in the playground and they must adhere to social distancing.

“Please leave the playground as soon as the teacher appears to take in the lines.”

Ms Macgregor did say an exemption would be if a child is upset, but warned against parents approaching teachers if that were to happen.

“If you have information for the teacher, this should be passed on by either calling or emailing the school,” she added.

Clancy, Dundee City Council executive director of children and families services, said: “The city council and NHS Tayside continue to work together on thorough investigations.

“All staff can get access to testing. We will advise families as soon as we can about when Kingspark will reopen.

“Keeping pupils and staff safe is our paramount concern.”

Dr Ellie Hothersall, consultant in public health medicine with NHS Tayside, said: “All staff and identified close contacts of positive cases have been advised to self-isolate and are being offered testing.”
