Baby proves he’s ‘summit’ special by bagging Munros – before he can even walk!

Mum and dad introduce 10-month-old son to a life of adventure

A baby boy from Fife is thought to have become the youngest Munro-bagger at just 10 weeks old.

Innis was able to tick off his first two Munros after being carried up to the summits of Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas in Perthshire in the arms of his adventure-mad parents Chloe, 28, and Lee, 32.

Mum Chloe said it had not crossed her mind that he could be the youngest when they set out for a weekend walk, just weeks after her son was born.

The mountains, overlooking Loch Tay, are 1,214 metres and 1,103 metres respectively, with the latter accessible by summiting the former.

Chloe said: “I was determined to get into the hills and walking as soon as I could after what was a difficult birth, and with Innis being such a content baby we took the first opportunity we could.

“So many people had told me that I’d not be able to go walking once I’d given birth, so I was determined to prove them wrong.

“Innis arrived by emergency caesarean but I healed very quickly and felt fit enough, so we ventured out taking turns to carry Innis in the baby carrier and with our dog Millie in tow.”

However, Chloe admits making the ascent took a little longer than it would have done previously.

“Innis still needs his feed every hour, so we’d just stop, play with him on the grass, change him and then it was back on our way.

“It took a wee while longer but it was just great to do it as a family and goes to prove we don’t have to shut the door on doing things you love just because we have a baby.”

Chloe said she has been surprised by all the fuss after photographs of Innis at the summit posted on social media attracted huge attention.

“We just thought they were cute photos but the interest has just blown up and people are now saying he’s the youngest to bag a Munro,” she said.

Scotland’s 282 Munros are peaks of 3,000ft or more named after Sir Hugh Munro who mapped them all in the 19th Century.

Innis will be able to tick another off his list this weekend as the family plan to be back out in the countryside.

“We can only get out on Sundays as a family, so we are going to Beinn Narnain and even my dad’s coming along to see what all the fuss is about,” said Chloe.

“We plan to revisit the Munros we’ve carried Innis up when he’s a bit older and who knows, he might just bag them all at some point if he wants to.”
