The search for missing Glenrothes man Steven Squires ended in tragedy yesterday afternoon after police confirmed they had found a body.

Police teams were seen hunting the outskirts of Perth earlier in the day after the 33-year-old was last seen in the Broxden area on Wednesday evening.

Two patrols with dogs walked the pathways between Buckie Braes and Necessity Brae as the search for the missing man entered a fourth day.

Steven left his home address around 6pm on Sunday and was seen in the Broxden area of Perth about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

His car was found near the Travelodge hotel and officers believe he left the area on foot.

Kyle Hegg, a childhood friend of Steven, paid tribute to the Fife man and thankedthose who had sharedmessages on social media during the search.

He said: “Rest easy my man, you’re at peace now.

“Thanks to everyone who contributed in making the post yesterday go viral.

“Steven was found today and is sadly no longer with us.

“Thoughts are with all his family at this time and I personally would appreciate if you give them space during this difficult time.”

The search for Steven had lasted for several days after he was reported missing on Tuesday.

Police soon focused their attention on the Broxden area of Perth before employing sniffer dogs to search the pathways on the outskirts of the city centre.

A witness who saw the search party yesterday afternoon told The Courier: “They were in Broxden on Thursday night.

“Today (Friday) I’ve seen two officers and two dogs searching the path.

“It’s quite a popular path and there’s a lot of dog walkers.

“There’s one main path and then there’s another path through the woods, they run parallel to each other but the one through the woods is quite overgrown.”

Police Scotland confirmed they had found a body in the search for Steven.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that the body of a man has been found in the outskirts of Perth. The body has not yet been formally identified.

“However, the family of Steven Squire, 33, who had been reported missing from the Glenrothes area on Tuesday September 1 has been made aware.”

Steven was found today and is sadly no longer with us. KYLE HEGG
