Pars back on course is Turner’s target
Kyle Turner is hopeful of quickly getting back into the swing of things with Dunfermline thanks to some lockdown golf.
The 22-year-old has a handicap of just four and filled his spare time during the football lay-off by getting in a few rounds on the course with his dad, the former Morton, St Johnstone and St Mirren midfielder Tommy.
ButTurnerjuniorisdelightedtofinally be back to his day job and welcomed a first run-out in six months when the Pars drew 1-1 with Stenhousemuir in a friendly at the weekend.
Turner Jr said: “It keeps you active and I played some competitions to get back in the swing of it.
“My handicap is four but, to be fair, I have been playing for years and started when I was five or six.
“It has been good, I enjoy it and my dad and I usually play.
“We play at Cochrane
Castle,
Johnstone. I have played there since I was a junior and worked there for two or three years too.
“I used to play on my days off. It is only five minutes from my house so it is ideal.
“Obviously it has been a while, six months or so, but it was just really good to be back playing our first 11-a-side game because we have not really even been allowed to do that much in training.”
Turner is convinced Dunfermline had a good opportunity to land a promotion play-off place before the season was halted in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
And, despite acknowledging Hearts’ obvious strength, the former Stranraer youngster is optimistic for the new campaign.
He added: “It is going to be a short season so we need to get off to a good start. Hearts are favourites but we will see what happens.
“We have got a good squad here. Everyone knows there are two or three players challenging for every position so we need to be performing in training and performing on the pitch on a Saturday.”
