Some potential stars could be on parade for Perth’s bumper nine-race 2020 Finale fixture today.

A small but select field of five have been declared for the Timothy Hardie Jewellers Novices’ Chase, a 2m 4f race with a rich history of producing top horses over fences.

Nigel Twiston-Davies, successful with subsequent Grand National hero Bindaree in 2000, has won six of the last 10 renewals and the Gloucestershire trainer saddles chasing newcomer REDFORD ROAD under his son Sam.

SAGLAWY, a Grade 2 winner over hurdles in Ireland for Willie Mullins, is another fascinating recruit to fences on just his second start for 11-time champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls.

The Jet Master Handicap Hurdle (Northern Lights Two Miles Series Qualifier) is named in honour of the horse trained by Nick Alexander who won four seasons running at this September meeting, including three successive times in this very race between 2015-17.

Kinneston-based Alexander has his eye on the prize yet again as he has declared January’s Doncaster winner WAKOOL who carries the same colours as Jet Master.

Meanwhile Amalfi Doug recorded his fifth course win when romping away with the feature race at Perth yesterday.

Ridden by reigning champion jockey Brian Hughes, the Keith Dalgleishtrained grey slammed Elmono by seven and a half lengths in the Weatherbys Racing Bank David Whitaker Handicap Chase.

Olly Murphy was full of praise for Perth after Alpha Carinae made a pleasing debut over timber in the EBF Mares’ National Hunt Novices’ Hurdle.

The Warwickshire trainer said: “The course is in wonderful condition and they’ve done a great job.”
