THAINSTONE – Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 409 young and weaned calves on Saturday.

Bullocks (260) averaged 242.5p and sold to 286.1p per kg for a 374kg Limousin from Achdregnie, Glenlivet, and £1,260 for a 478kg Limousin and for a 516kg Limousin both from Achdregnie. Heifers (149) averaged 246p and sold to 362.1p per kg and £1,550 for a 428kg Limousin from Achdregnie. DINGWALL – Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd sold 179 rams to average £558.10 (+ £85.53 on last year) at its annual show and sale of Blackface rams on October 9. Shearlings (139) sold to £1,900 from Milton Farm, Aberarder. Two-shears (17) sold to £1,100 from Blackford Farm, Croy. Three-shears (6) sold to £500 from Braes of Ardeonaig, Killin.

Four-shears (1) sold to £300 from Tulloch Farm, Dingwall. Ram lambs (14) sold to £350 from Harestone, Insch. Aged rams (2) sold to £700 from Bomakelloc­h, Drummuir. Aberdeen-Angus bullocks (121) averaged 224.2p and sold to 262.6p per kg for a pair of 278kg from Balgownie Way, Bridge of Don, and £1,285 for a pair of 590kg from Feaval, Birsay. Organic bullocks (14) averaged 245.5p and sold to 269.3p per kg for a pen of 362kg Herefords from Upper Wheedlemon­t, Rhynie, and £1,180 for a 514kg Shorthorn from Upper Wheedlemon­t. Heifers (244) averaged 215.1p and sold to 279.8p per kg and £1,420 for a 778kg Simmental from Lawfolds, Durno. Aberdeen-Angus heifers (82) averaged 212.2p and sold to 233.5p per kg for a 454kg from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch, and £1,230 for a 554kg from Craigielea, Wester Craigie.

Organic heifers (13) averaged 241.8p and sold to 243.7p per kg and £1,350 for a pen of 554kg Aberdeen-Angus from Edinglassi­e Mains, Glass. Bulls (six) sold to 223.8p per kg and £1,155 for a pair of 516kg Limousins from Clinterty, New Aberdour. Young and weaned calves (28) sold to £720.

STIRLING – Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 238 beef breeding cattle, which included heifer calves with future breeding. potential and the reduction from M L Wilson, Baluskie and Glenduisk Farms, Barrhill, on October 9.

Heifers and calves averaged £3,287 selling to a top of £5,000 for a Limousin heifer and Limousin calf from C Malone, Pitcairn.

Cows and calves averaged £1,560 selling to a top of £2,600 for a seven-year-old British Blue with a Limousin calf at foot from M L Wilson, Baluskie, Barrhill.

In-calf heifers averaged £1,487 and sold to a top of £2,800 for a British Blue scanned in-calf from M L Wilson, Baluskie. In-calf cows averaged £1,287 and sold to £1,700 for a Limousin from M L Wilson, Baluskie.

Heifer calves with future breeding potential averaged £702 selling to £870 for a pen of Shorthorns from W L Chambers, North Moorhouse, Newton Mearns. THAINSTONE – Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,966 island sheep on October 9. Lambs (1,731) sold to £88 for Beltex crosses from Gorfield, Cunningsbu­rgh.

Ewes (235) sold to £110 for Texels from South Lea, Vidlin.
