No doubts for Thomas despite uncertainty over Rugby Park tie

-

D u n f e r m l i n e’s Dom Thomas will return to face his old club tonight – but is u n l i ke l y to recognise some of the Kilmarnock line-up.

The Rugby Park side said last night they will go ahead with the game despite only having five senior outfield players and a keeper available.

Killie were forced to forfeit last week’s Betfred Cup clash with Falkirk after the first-team squad was advised to self-isolate following six positive Covid-19 tests, with their match against Motherwell earlier in the month postponed.

With no supporters in the stands and an unfamiliar line-up on the pitch, it will be an unusual return for Thomas, but he is convinced the Pars have the quality to get a win.

The on-form winger, who racked up two pinpoint assists in Friday’s 2-0 victory over Falkirk, said before last night’s announcement: “I don’t really know what the situation is just now with Kilmarnock.

“We will prepare for the game and the manager has told us that we will treat it as any other game, albeit there has been a bit of uncertainty about it.

“We are looking to go and get another three points. Ultimately we want to win this group.

“I had good times at Kilmarnock but I treat every game as the same. We will set out to go and win that game, put on another good performance and hopefully get a clean sheet.

“I think if we can keep clean sheets this season, with the attacking presence that we have got, we will win the majority of games.

“Whatever team Kilmarnock field we will be ready for them.”

The Pars have started with back-to-back wins and clean sheets.

At the other end of the pitch, the pace of Thomas, Ryan D o w, Declan McMan u s and Ke v i n O’Hara caused Falkirk problems on Friday.

And Thomas admits he is revelling in life in Fife after turning last season’s loan spell into a permanent move to East End Park in the summer.

He added: “In every game, I love playing football and love getting on the ball. It really suits me in this team, the way we play, because we like to get it wide and create things.

“A l l credit to the manager, he gives us the freedom to go out and play and express ourselves.”

Kilmarnock boss Alex Dyer also claimed last night that Livingston have turned down a request to put back their scheduled Premiership clash on Saturday by a few days.
