• Tao Geoghegan Hart became the latest British winner on a grand tour after sprinting to victory on stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia at Piancavallo yesterday. The 25-yearold Londoner saw off Team Sunweb pair Wilco Kelderman and Jai Hindley for a win which also thrusts him into contention in the general classification. Kelderman’s second place cut Joao Almeida’s overall lead to just 15 seconds, with Hindley in third and Geoghegan Hart now just two minutes and 57 seconds behind the leader. Victory made Geoghegan Hart the fifth stage winner for the Ineos Grenadiers, despite the team losing leader Geraint Thomas after a crash in stage three.

• Boxer Kell Brook will take on Terence Crawford for his world welterweight title on November 14. WBO champion Crawford is unbeaten in 36 fights and claimed a controversial win against Amir Khan in April 2019 following a below-the-belt punch. Brook – a former IBF title holder – must drop back to the 147lbs limit as he bids to take Crawford’s title.

• Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg’s Exeter Chiefs were crowned kings of European club rugby for the first time after a thrilling 31-27 Heineken Champions Cup final victory over Racing 92. The Chiefs conquered Europe in only their 10th season as a top-flight team, ultimately flooring the French heavyweights – who have Hogg’s Scotland team-mate Finn Russell in their ranks – at Ashton Gate through a combination of forward power and ruthless finishing.

• Fallon Sherrock has failed to secure her place at the 2020-21 World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace after finishing outside the top two in the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit. The 26-yearold made headlines by reaching the third round last year.
