Haws confident ahead of clash with leaders

-

The big game in the Premier Division of the East of Scotland League is at Saughton where leaders Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale take on Hill of Beath.

John Mitchell’s Haws have won both of their games following the opening day defeat at Tranent and will travel to the capital in a confident mood. Lyle Kellican has scored in all three games so far and will be hoping he can continue his run of goals against the leaders.

The only absentee for Hill of Beath is Ricky Patrick who is recovering from a broken leg.

In the First Division, Newburgh have had a decent star t to their Conference B campaign with two wins from their three games including a 4-2 win at Burntisland Shipyard a week ago.

However, any positives that came out of that game were negated by a heavy defeat to amateur side Cupar Hearts in midweek, losing 7-2.

Manager Scott Hudson will be looking for a big improvement as Burgh host Eyemouth United at East Shore Park.

Luncarty boss Robbie Holden is without Aaron Carlon through suspension as the Perthshire side travel to take on in-form league leaders He riot Watt University at The Oriam Centre. Holden still sees areas for improvement from his squad and they were highlighted in last week’s narrow victory over Preston Athletic. He knows that they will have to be much improved if they are to take any points from the trip to the capital.

There is a tasty Fife derby at Oakley as United host Burntisland Shipyard. Oakley manager Stewart Kenny said: “We know we are in for a tough game in a tough Fife derby against Burntisland but if we keep playing the way we have started then hopefully the result will come.”

Oakley are without Burns, Gruar and Walker while Shippy are expected to be along the same lines as last week’s home defeat to Newburgh.

Glenrothes have had to wait two weeks after their last game, a 2-1 defeat at Hawick Royal Albert.

Glens joint manager John Martin said: “It will be good to get back to business after being idle last week. Kevin and I will be looking for a reaction from the Hawick game that the lads know just wasn’t good enough.”

Glens are without Grant Skinner and Lea Schiavone for the trip to Preston Athletic.

Jeanfield Swifts and Lochgelly Albert meet in the Challenge Cup at Riverside and Ross Gunnion’s side will go in to the game as big favourites after two wins and a draw from their three opening games.

However, the visitors were winners last weekend at home to Hawick Royal Albert so will not be taken for granted.

Both sides leave the naming of squads late.
