Designers to showcase work online

- ANITA DIOURI

Adesign market to be held online next month will showcase Perthshire’s “incredible” talent.

Following the success of the online Summer Design Market, organisers Perthshire Creates and Culture Perth and Kinross will run it again ahead of the festive season.

The Digital Design Market will bring together the works of local makers, artists and designers and will run from November 26 to 29.

More than 60 artists will be involved in the market, including 13 new participants.

They will be able to sell their original artworks, such as jewellery, prints, ceramics, photography, glassworks and upcycled creations, to a global audience.

Caron Ironside, project o ff i c e r for Pe r t h s h i r e Creates, believes in the importance of supporting local artists and businesses.

She said: “Buying local and handmade has always been at the core of our annual Design Markets and the Christmas event is a much-anticipated and enjoyable calendar date.

“This year has highlighted how shopping locally can support incredible talent throughout our region, and we hope that everyone continues to enjoy shopping directly from local creatives online.”

Before the event, artists will also create videos to introduce themselves and show their design process.

Next month’s showcase comes after the virtual summer market went ahead successfully this year. Organisers chose to move the event online in response to social distancing guidelines imposed in response to the pandemic.

Held over three days in June, it highlighted the work of around 50 local ar tists, designers, and makers.

Ms Ironside said the move online ensured the artists and audiences would still be able to interact with each other. She said: “By adapting our summer design market and taking it online, we’ ve created an excellent online option so that neither the artists nor the audience miss out.

“It is a first for all of us involved and it has been exciting to see how many creatives have embraced a new way to reach their audience.

“This new format will hopefully open up audiences from far afield.”

Further information on the upcoming event can be found on the Design Market Facebook event page.
