Spooks and nooks on walks

- JAMIE BUCHAN

Hair-raising ghost walks will be held in Pe r t h and Dunkeld this weekend. The Covid-safe guided tours will be led by the Fair City’s History and Horror Tours group.

They aim to bring spooky old stories to life, while unearthing the a r e a ’s hidden dark past, with trails through Perth today and Dunkeld tomorrow.

Organisers hope the events will offer locals an alternative treat this Halloween, with guising, parties and the usual Fair City Winter Fe s t i v a l cancelled.

Because of the current restrictions, tour sizes will be limited and guides will use amplifiers so guests don’t have to stand too close. Handshakes are also being discouraged but customers are told: “A good

old fashioned bow, curtsy or d o ff of the cap is acceptable.”

The tours will shine a light on lesser known and gruesome tales from the area’s rich and often bloody history.

Visitors can expect stories of executions, murders, cannibals and scandalous behaviour, as well as tales that have been selected for Halloween.

Lynne Knight said the tours are designed with spooky season in mind. “We will be introducing our new guides and telling stories from around Scotland, that don’t usually feature on our tours.”

She added: “We wanted to offer something a bit different for a Halloween that’s going to be a bit different, without guiding and parties.”

With guising ruled out by the pandemic, The Courier wants you still to enjoy some Halloween fun.
