Women’s Cardiff clash off after positive result

S u n d ay ’s Wo m e n’s Six Na t i o n s game against Wales in Cardiff has been called off as a Scotland team player has tested positive for the coronavirus.

T he player, who has not been named is “asymptomatic and doing w e l l ”, according to a statement from Scottish Rugby.

“The positive case was identified through the team’s stringent screening and testing protocol and the player started selfisolation immediately as per Scottish Government g u i d e l i n e s ,” read the statement.

“No further players or management are required to self-isolate as a result of the positive case.”

Four further players were withdrawn from Scotland camp earlier this week after being identified as “close contacts” with members of the French team they played at Scotstoun on S u n d a y. Several French players have tested positive for Covid-19 since returning to France.

“The four i d e n t i fi e d players did not reconvene in camp this w e e k ,” continued the Scottish Rugby statement. “The decision was made in consultation with Public Health Scotland and was supported by S c o tt i s h Rugby ’s ‘Threat Ma n a g e m e n t Group’ following an extensive review of all evidence from Sunday’s match.

“Scottish Rugby will continue to monitor the situation and support all relevant individuals, while continuing to work with the Scottish Government and relevant local health boards.”

The game, scheduled for Cardiff City Stadium, had already been postponed from the first wave of coronavirus in March.
