Pars boss Crawford praises goalkeeper’s down to earth attitude

-

Stevie C r awf o r d has hailed the influence of Owain Fon Williams on and off the pitch at Dunfermline.

The Welshman made last season’s loan deal from Hamilton Accies permanent this summer when he penned a two- year deal at East End Park.

The 3 3 - y e a r - o l d ’s agreement saw him take on the role of goalkeeping coach as well as the number one jersey.

The former Inverness Cale y T histle keeper pulled off a stunning save at a crucial time in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Alloa Athletic to help the Fifers maintain their 100% record.

But, ahead of the visit of Queen of the South this weekend, Crawford believes the Wa l e s internationalist ’s character will also play a huge part for the Pars.

He said: “Cream rises to the top and I think that (with) the personalities that we have brought in to the club.

“Big Owain pulls off a double save at the weekend. Why? Because he is focused, he knows the job in hand, he has experience.

“But what is he doing on Monday morning? He was not thinking about the double save that he has made, he is pushing young Ben Swinton, he is pushing Cammy Gill to the maximum that he can because he is professional.

“He wants them to enjoy it, he wants them to progress in their career. That is massive to me.

“He is not p a tt i n g himself on the back and taking all the glory.

“He is infectious. He has got feeling, he wants people to do well and progress.

“I am thankful that I have people like that around me.”
