DCA to close due to lack of customers

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) has announced it will close temporarily due to a lack of customers.

Bosses at the Nethergate institution, which features an art g a l l e r y, cinema and restaurant, say it is not financially viable to remain open in Tier 3 restrictions.

Just this week the charity received £143,588 from the Scottish Gove rnmen t ’s In d e p e n d e n t Cinema Recovery and Resilience Fund and the National Lottery, through Screen Scotland.

It will remain open for the rest of this week before shutting on November 9.

A spokesperson said: “We’ve been monitoring our visitor numbers and income closely since Tier 3 restrictions came into effect this week and have come to the conclusion that our long-term sustainability will be better served by a temporary closure, especially as very few people are able to visit us at the moment.

“This means the early closure, by a few days, of our current exhibition by Stuart Whipps – the show is, however, available to view online.

“During this closure period, our team will be working to install our next exhibition, by Emma Talbot, which we hope to open as soon as restrictions allow.

“We are so grateful to the many people who have visited, donated and participated in our programme since we reopened in September – your comments and feedback have been wonderful to receive.

“We really hope it won’t be long before we can welcome you all back again.”
