Police probe after spateof vandalism at primary school

- ANITA DIOURI

Police have launched an investigation into damage caused to a Pe r t h s h i r e primary school. Officers appealed for information after vandalism was discovered at Stanley Primary School on two separate occasions.

A small fire damaged an external door of the building between 5pm on October 30 and 8am on November 2.

Meanwhile, a drainpipe was pulled from a wall between 5pm on November 2pm and 8am the following day.

Officers believe this was caused by a person trying to use it to climb on to the roof, with the pipe giving way as a result.

A Po l i c e Scotland spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating two incidents at Stanley Primary School.

“Both are thought most likely to have been caused by youths who have been seen in the school grounds and on the roof previously.”

Meanwhile, Perth and

Kinross Council has urged young people in the area to spend their time responsibly.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We want to encourage children and young people to be active and spend time with their peers but not in ways that have a detrimental effect on their communities.

“We are aware of the damage caused to an external door and drainpipe on the school building as a result of recent vandalism.

“T he school and the council are also aware of instances of youths being in the school grounds and climbing on the building’s roof which we would also strongly discourage for very clear safety reasons.

“Parents and carers are also being asked to ensure that there is no unsupervised access to the school outside school hours.”

Po l i c e Scotland is appealing for anyone with information to contact them directly on 101 or to speak to any police officer.
