Swifts keep pressure on leaders with win

-

Jeanfield Swifts maintained their unbeaten start to the East of Scotland Premier Division season with a 3-1 home win over 10-man Broxburn Athletic.

The game turned on an eight-minute spell in the first half. On 29 minutes Gary Fergus put Jeanfield in front and then on 37 minutes it was two when Chris McLeish headed in a Scott Smith corner.

It got worse for Broxburn as just after the goal they were reduced to 10 men when Connor Kelly was sent off.

Broxburn started the second half brightly and pulled a goal back, but Connor McLaren made it 3-1 and secured the win that leaves Swifts six points behind leaders Tranent with two games in hand.

Inverkeithing Swifts couldn’t reproduce last weekend’s form as they went down 2-0 to Newtongrange Star at home.

It was a feisty affair at Moorside Park as Dundonald Bluebell hosted Hill of Beath.

Bluebell led 2- 0 after half an hour with two goals from Stuart Cargill but Haws pulled one back on 32 minutes through Joe Kirby.

Just after the hour the visitors were level through Daniel Watt but the Haws man turned villain on 72 minutes when he joined teammate Shaun Leishman and B l u e b e l l ’s Billy Rogerson in taking an early bath after all three were shown red cards. With three minutes left on the clock Kieran Dall hit the Bluebell winner.

Crossgates Primrose led twice at Tynecastle but had to settle for a point from a 3-3 draw.

Primrose’s goals came from Scott Lawrie, Archie Campbell and Ciaran Chalmers.

Performance of the day in Conference A of the First Division went to Lee Richardson’s Kennoway Star He a r t s as they thrashed local rivals Thornton Hibs.

Hearts’ loan striker from Dundee Adam Mansouri put the visitors 2-0 in front with goals on 10 and 15 minutes before Harris Kay added a third on 17 minutes.

Hibs pulled a goal back with a Daniel McNab penalty but that was as good as it got as Lee Bryce made it 4-1 on 39 minutes and Ross Balmer added a fifth for Hearts.

St Andrews United and Kirkcaldy & Dysart had to settle for a share of the pints from a 1-1 draw at Clayton Pa r k while Rosyth needed a late equaliser to take a share of the points in a 2-2 draw with Dalkeith.

Lochore Welfare are still looking for their first win of the Conference B season following a 3-1 defeat at Burntisland.
