Proposed schools merger in line for approval
The proposed Braeview Academy and Craigie High School merger has been recommended for approval by council officials.
In a newly-published report, council officials recommend that the proposal should go for ward for a final decision on approval to be considered by the council’s children and families services early next year.
Proposals were unveiled by Dundee City Council earlier this year for a £ 60 million replacement school on the site of the former St Saviour’ s High, which, could have been completed by August 2024.
However, if approved, the planned opening of a new campus will be delayed until August 2025 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A public consultation on the proposals began in February but was cut short when schools closed in March. Further consultation was held online between August and September.
In the report, Paul Clancy, executive director of the children and families service, said :“Twenty-four representations were received on the proposal during the consultation period.
“These responses were mainly positive, however, a few raised concerns about transport, safe routes and the potential for flooding at the proposed site.”
If the merger is approved , the catchment area would include the current one for Braeview and Craigie, with the exception of Craigiebarns Primary School.
The catchment area for Grove Academy would be expanded to embrace the current Craigiebarns Primary School catchment area.
