Cycling champ Beaumont to share tips on staying mentally resilient
World- record- breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont is set to share his secrets to staying resilient in the face of tough challenges in a bid to keep people motivated during coronavirus.
The Blairgowrie-born athlete, who attended Dundee High School, will take the online stage for Eden Project’s first virtual Festival of Discovery.
Beaumont will share his tips for staying mentally strong through adversity, as well as discussing how cycling saw a spike in popularity during lockdown.
The festival is aiming to help people connect from across the UK through lively discussions, fun demonstrations and inspiring stories.
Beaumont will speak live on the Med Motivation stage this weekend, alongside fitness favourite Mr Motivator, Eddie Izzard and Jo Brand.
He said: “2020 is a year when we have all needed endurance, in one way or in many.
“As someone who has pedalled around the planet a few times, I have found this endurance experience surprisingly useful when faced with massive uncertainty in all walks of life.
“You could say that endurance is all about mind power, but that’s too simple, it is really about maintaining control and having a plan, no matter how huge the task.
“Belief comes from knowing your skills and practice, motivation comes from wanting to make an impact in the world you care about – and potential is committing to optimism.
“These three words – belief, motivation and potential – can be applied to overcome all sorts of challenges.”
Sir Tim S mitt, cofounder of the Eden Project, said: “This second wave is going to be tough for everyone. We can still bring people together to have meaningful conversations online that help us work towards a better future for ourselves, our communities and the planet.”
T he festival can be streamed via the festival of discovery. co mon Friday and Saturday.
