England recall Ford at fly-half

-

England have named George Ford at fly-half in their only change for tomorrow ’s Autumn Nations Cup clash with Wales at Parc y Scarlets.

Ford has been re instated as playmaker-in-chief after making his comeback from an Achilles injury as a replacement in last weekend’s resounding 18-7 victory over Ireland at Twickenham.

The midfield adjustment is partially a result of Ollie Lawrence suffering a hip problem and the knock-on effect is to see captain Owen Farrell join Henry Slade in the centres.

“We ’ r e expecting another tough match and at the home of Welsh rugby where the heart and soul of their game is,” England head coach Eddie Jones said.

“Twelve months ago, Wales were Grand Slam champions and three points from a World Cup final, so we know what they are capable of.

“We’ ve picked the best 23 players for the battle and we’re looking forward to it greatly.”

Cardiff Blues scrumhalf Lloyd Williams will make his first Wales start for four years against England.

Flanker James Botham re tains his place in a back- row missing Justin Tipuric and Josh Navidi.

Meanwhile, Ireland will hand a full debut to fly-half Billy Burns as part of an experimental line- up for Sunday’s Autumn Nations Cup clash with Georgia.

Burns, who came off the bench in the win over Wa l e s and subsequent defeat to England, is among nine changes to head coach Andy Farrell’s starting XV.

The former England under-20 international replaces Ross Byrne and will line up behind experienced scrum-half Conor Murray, who has been recalled following two consecutive appearances from the bench.
