Young could be forced to make changes for Fifers’ trip to Angus

-

East Fife manager Darren Young says he knows his side are approaching a “massive” week that could shape their season.

The Fifers kicked off the first of four games in eight days with a goalless draw against Cove Rangers on Saturday and travel to Montrose tonight knowing a win could see them leapfrog the hosts and move into the top four.

Young said: “It is the start of a massive week for us because we have the two league games against Montrose and then Clyde on Thursday before we host Morton in a Scottish Cup tie at the end of it.

“It has been good to get back to competitive action and I have been pretty happy overall with what I have seen. All the boys have done well and the new guys have come in and settled nicely.

“I said before the Cove game the only improvement I was looking for was a clean sheet and we managed to get that, so that gives us a platform to build on.

“We might even have got a winner if the referee had played on in the last minute but sometimes you get them, other times you don’t.

“There are no easy games so we will need to use the squad. The other teams are in the same position with games on Tuesday and Thursday, so it is what it is.”

Young added: “We know we will have to chop and change the team for the sheer amount of games we are going to be playing in a short period of time.

“All it takes is someone to pick up a slight knock and we could lose them for the rest of the season.

“Danny Denholm felt a bit tight before the game on Saturday but got through it OK, Nathan Austin was shattered by the end with the amount of work he did and Ryan Wallace put in another great shift.”
