MSIP training course a boost to create wind turbine technicians
A new training course at Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) will help create a local workforce of wind turbine technicians.
Dundee and Angus College has entered a partnership with Dundeebased Coast Renewable Services Ltd.
They will be based at the new purpose-build skills academy within MSIP.
MSIP chief executive Greig Coull said: “The ambition of MSIP Skills Academy is to ensure that the sustainable mobility and decarbonisation industries are resourced with the right people, at the right time.
“Coast Renewable Services and Dundee and Angus College will support the needs of the renewable energy sector with this new training course, creating a generation of competent wind turbine technicians.
“It is a great fit to have this located at the Skills Academy, as a core part of the curriculum.
“It fulfils the ambition we have, to provide training on existing and next generation technologies, that responds to the needs of companies across industry and ultimately, create job opportunities and economic growth.”
The college will offer the Global Wind Organisations (GWO) basic technical training course, which is designed to increase the number of skilled technicians.
Meanwhile, Coast Renewables will provide the GWO basic safety training qualification.
This collaboration will also assist with modern apprentice routes, providing interviews for students and placement opportunities.
Caryn Gibson, economics partnership manager at D&A College, said: “The college is delighted to be part of this collaboration in the hope that we can develop a strong future workforce that will be required for several major upcoming renewables projects.
“Our passion is the people of Dundee and Angus and we hope that projects like this can help create local jobs that can provide life-long careers for them.”
Mark Robson, managing director of Coast Renewable Services Ltd, said: “As a wellestablished, expanding company in Dundee we are passionate about how we can support the region and those wishing to enter the ever-expanding renewables sector.
“This collaboration will see the combination of a well-respected academic establishment and an operational, industry centred, expanding company which will result in training which is relevant and current.”
