Petrie’s warning ahead of Broch tie

-

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie has urged his players not to take anything for granted as they prepare to face Fraserburgh at Bellsea Park for a place in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

The Gable Endies are flying high in League One and face the Highland League side who have not played competitively since early January, but Petrie has warned his side against any complacency.

He said: “It is a huge chance to get yourself into the last 16, so it is a massive game for both clubs.

“With all due respect to Nairn who we beat 7-1 in the last round, we are expecting a tougher game from Fraserburgh.

“We will go up there and drum in the importance of the game to the boys.

“We are led to believe they are a bit further ahead than Nairn were in terms of preparation.

“I spoke to Paul Lawson at Formartine and they had four sessions before they beat Annan, so we know Fraserburgh will have had more to keep themselves fit and looking to shock.

“Just seeing the likes of Brora and Formartine also getting through shows you the quality of the Highland League teams, so we will take nothing for granted.

“We have stressed that our attitude will have to be spot on again, because if you do not treat the game in the right manner, these teams can trip you up.”

Montrose were dumped out the same competition by the Broch back in 2013 when Grant Noble scored a late winner, and Petrie says his side need to be focused if they want to stop a repeat.

“We have done our due diligence the best we can and obviously they have had a shortened season, but we play a strong side that is going out there to get through,” he added.
