Raith will be wary of the bottom dogs

- IAIN COLLIN John Mcglynn.

John Mcglynn has urged Raith Rovers to avoid complacency as they bid to land the victory over Alloa that would secure a promotion play-off place.

The Stark’s Park men sit two points clear in second in the Championship with just three games remaining and are in pole position for a top-four finish.

Just one more win will be enough to ensure they cannot be caught by Fife rivals Dunfermline back in fifth.

But Mcglynn is wary of an Alloa side now eight points adrift at the bottom but not yet arithmetically consigned to League One, despite last Friday’s 6-0 hammering from Hearts.

He said: “We can’t take anything for granted at all going into the game.

“They’re fighting for their lives, they’re not officially relegated, so they’ll still be hanging on to the hope they can get away from that bottom position. So, we’ve got to guard against them.

“They’ve come off the back of a 6-0 loss at Tynecastle and no-one likes that.

“So, I’ve no doubt Peter Grant will have asked for a response from his players and the players’ pride will be coming out and they’ll be wanting to make amends for that.

“So, once again, we need to make sure our attitude’s right and that we don’t underestimate them and give them every bit of respect.

“We need points to make sure we’re in the top four and we’re looking to go to Alloa and pick up all three points and give ourselves more of a gap on Dundee.”

Raith took a giant step towards the play-offs with Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory over Queen of the South.

The winning goal from Gozie Ugwu featured Rovers’ trademark passing football that swept the length of the pitch.

And Mcglynn admits that, with just one loss from their last nine league outings, the Kirkcaldy side are in good form going into the home straight.

He added: “Confidence is high in our camp and we’ve got to very much be focused on ourselves on the back of the win down at Palmerston on Tuesday night.

“The guys are in a good place, physically and mentally, and we’re in a good place in the league, so we’re looking forward to the game.”
