Young wants Fifers to finish with a flourish and seal play-off spot

-

East Fife manager Darren Young has called on his side to finish this part of their League One campaign with two victories as they look to secure a play-off place.

The Fifers sit in sixth spot and welcome seventh-placed Peterhead to Bayview today knowing a win see them jump to fourth and move closer to clinching a top-half finish.

Young said: “From our point of view, we have two massive cup finals coming in the next few days. All our focus will be on Peterhead before we think about Airdrie on Tuesday.

“If we can get six points from the last two games of the 18-game season, then we just have to hope that is enough to get us there. I expect it to go right down to the wire so we need to win against Peterhead to give ourselves the opportunity.”

East Fife ran out 2-1 winners over bottom side

Forfar last weekend and Young says there were plenty of lessons learned ahead of the Blue Toon’s visit. He added: “Some of our play last week at Forfar was very good, our movement in off the sides worked well and we will look to take that into the Peterhead game.

“One of the gripes I have had all season has been that we are not converting the chances we create and it was the same again last week, so that is something else we have tried to improve going into Peterhead.

“We have had the full week to train instead of having two games which has been nice, so we have been able to work on some of the things we saw over the last few games.

“We cannot afford to give away sloppy goals against any team but Jim McInally’s teams are always well drilled and we have no margin for error.”
