Pupils missing school due to Covid-19

Almost 1,000 pupils in Tayside and Fife were absent from school in a single day because of coronaviru­s, figures have revealed.

Some 971 children missed school on Tuesday for any Covid19 related reason across the four local authority areas.

According to the data, Fife was the worst affected by Covid, with 511 pupils off school.

There were 46 absent in Angus, 173 in Dundee and 241 in Perth and Kinross.

Tayside pupils returned to school after the Easter break on Monday April 19, while pupils in Fife returned on April 12.

The absence figures come as NHS Fife confirmed cases of Covid at 14 schools and one nursery.

On Tuesday, Angus had the highest attendance levels with 94% of pupils in school.

At 91.1%, attendance was lowest in Fife.

In Dundee, the overall attendance was 92.1%, while 92.9% of pupils in Perth and Kinross were in school.

Pupils and staff at seven secondary schools and six primaries tested positive between Monday April 19 and Sunday April 25.

The following schools saw five or more people required to isolate after contact with a positive case:

Auchmuty High, Glenrothes; Beath High, Cowdenbeat­h; Camdean Primary, Rosyth; Canmore Primary, Dunfermlin­e; Dunfermlin­e High; Fair Isle Family Nurture Centre, Kirkcaldy; Glenrothes High; Kirkcaldy High; Kirkcaldy West Primary; Madras College, St Andrews.

Also, Pitreavie Primary, Dunfermlin­e; Pitteuchar West Primary, Glenrothes; St Columba’s RC High, Dunfermlin­e; St Leonard’s Primary, Dunfermlin­e and Thornton Primary.
