New dome dining proves a hit

- MARIAM OKHAI

Taypark House in Dundee has received more than 800 bookings in the first five days of announcing its new heated outdoor dome dining experience.

Due to open on Monday, bookings for the new dining concept at the hotel on Perth Road have been open since last Friday.

In that time the boutique hotel has taken hundreds of reservations for the new experience, said to be the first of its kind in the city.

Co-owners William Salve and Glenn Roach have been overwhelmed with the support and Glenn was inspired to bring the concept to the hotel after trying out a similar concept in London.

With hundreds booked in to enjoy the domes, William described the excitement and his feelings around the new experience as “buzzing” due to the public’s response.

He said: “We are the first venue in Dundee to offer the dining domes.

“They look stunning and are great for special occasions.

“The moment the news was in the paper, that day we had so many inquiries, phone calls and back-to-back emails about them.”

The dome has a range of experiences including breakfast, afternoon tea, two and three-course lunch menus and a five-course tasting menu.

Prices start from £19.50 for a two-course lunch while the most expensive experience is the tasting menu at £60 per head.

Diners can add a matching wine flight for an additional £25.

The domes themselves cost £30 alone to hire with the additional cost of food and drink added to the bill, depending on which experience and menu customers pick.

Most of the bookings can only be secured for one or two-hour slots and every dome has radiated heating in it as well as its own music system so the guests can enjoy their own music while they dine.

The domes were being installed this week.

William added that the bookings have been a mixture, with lunch, afternoon tea and dinner bookings proving the most popular.

Many of the guests booking have enquired about availability during summer 2022, which William and Glenn are now looking into.
