High-flying Swifts face tough test at Broxburn

-

It’s a full East of Scotland League Premier Division programme today with Jeanfield Swifts on their travels.

Swifts have won four games on the bounce since their last defeat at Linlithgow Rose, but this afternoon face a tough trip to face Broxburn Athletic, who sit a place and point ahead in fourth place.

Like Swifts, Broxburn had a bit of a blip but have got their train back on track and are challenging for a top-five finish.

Striker Dayle Robertson has really hit the ground running for Ross Gunnion’s side since he arrived from Tayport and will be looking to continue that form on the plastic at Albyn Park.

Gunnion is expected to have the same squad that thrashed Thornton Hibs last weekend.

In the First Division Conference B, Kinnoull’s trip to Preston Athletic will hopefully survive the weather after last weekend’s game in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup was postponed due to a problem with the floodlights at The Pennypit.

Noull boss Alan Cameron expects to have the same squad available with the addition of Mark Smith, who was cup-tied.

Robbie Holden insists that success won’t just fall into his side’s lap and they will need to work hard if they are to earn promotion to Division One for next season.

Holden’s men take on Peebles Rovers at home, on what will be a heavy pitch with a depleted squad.

Holden is without Blair Smart, Kieran Donald, Scott Mollison, Richie Montgomery and Keith Dewar for the game and, as a result, will leave his selection late.

In the McBookie.com Midlands League, Arbroath Vics will go into today’s game against Kirriemuir Thistle in a confident mood after last weekend’s 5-2 win over Coupar Angus at Foxhall Park.

Substitute Lewis Sivewright, on loan from Carnoustie, scored twice a week ago and he is likely to make the starting XI. Matt Keogh returns to the side after suspension but Jonathan Bastow replaces him on the sidelines after his red card last weekend.

Kirriemuir Thistle have lost Scott McComiskie and Bryan Deasley back to Lochee United after their loan deal was cut short and manager Stephen McNally is without Liam Duell through suspension, but has everybody else available.

At the start of the season, Coupar Angus will have targeted the visit to Foxhall Park of new boys Dundee St James as one of those games to win.

However, since they opened their first season, St James have shown that they can hold their own in the Midlands League and beat Broughty Athletic 2-1 a couple of weeks ago and will be tough opponents.

However, if Coupar can get the rub of the green then they could take all three points. Both sides are expected to have full squads available for the game.

A sign of the improvement shown by both Forfar West End and Letham were the nominations for Alan Ferguson and Derek Lawson for the November Manager of the Month Award and they both meet at Strathmore Park.

Both sides are expected to have full squads available for the game.

Brechin Vics make the trip to Farquharson Park to take on struggling Scone Thistle after having two weeks off, which has allowed healing time for a number of minor injuries in the squad and, as a result, are expected to have a full squad of 16 or 17 available.

Scone have to be commended for competing for the full 90 minutes in games that they were already well beaten in and they are a credit to manager Willie Laing.

● Last week saw Storm Arwen caused the postponement of a number of games and with today’s weather forecast not looking good, there may be call-offs once again.

Supporters are asked to contact their clubs regarding specific games.
