SNOOKER

Scott Donaldson’s return to form continued yesterday as the Perth snooker pro battled through to the third round of the Scottish Open in Llandudno.

The 27-year-old ended a four-game losing streak when he won his first round match on the final black, and Donaldson’s boosted morale was evident yesterday against Bristol’s Ben Hancorn. The Scot took the first two frames after rolling in a century break, but Hancorn had beaten him at the British Open in August and soon made it 2-2. Donaldson then nicked a tense fifth frame before sealing his 4-2 victory with a run of 72 in the sixth. He is already guaranteed a cheque for £7,500 but can now reach the quarter-finals by defeating Romford’s Matt Selt in the last 16.

Also making progress were veteran Scot John Higgins, who beat Ryan Day 4-0, and Judd Trump who saw off David Lilley 4-0.

Ronnie O’sullivan meanwhile booked his place in the fourth round with a 4-3 win over Jamie Jones.
