A warmer climate will benefit Scotland
Sir, – I write to address the letter from Nick Cole (December 3), where he foresees the coming Armageddon as the “world warms up further” and the imbalance this subject invariably exhibits in the MSM.
No one would argue atmospheric CO2 levels are increasing and have been since the start of the industrial revolution – we expel CO2 every time we breathe, and the population has grown somewhat since then.
However, it is far from a small minority questioning the almost hysterical doommongering; more that anyone who dares flaunt the new religion is invariably labelled a heretic or denier and seemingly suppressed.
The letter argues temperature increase is irrefutable; however institutions such as UAH, Hadcrut and even the Met Office have shown no warming in the last seven years, despite “record emissions”.
Further, there are many climatologists, unlike eminent scientists such as Prince Charles, Al Gore and Greta Thunberg, who believe the inadequate treatment of adaption leads to an exaggeration of the cost of “global warming”, if indeed there is any net cost at all over the next 100 years.
They argue realistically, adaption will occur, and to assess the putative cost of climate change without its consideration is the same as assessing the risk of catching pneumonia walking in the snow wearing a bathing suit.
Further, far from the global “climate emergency”, in many parts of the world (including Scotland) a slightly warmer climate will be beneficial, a viewpoint never reported in the media who understand that bad news sells.
One thing became clear from the hypocritical COP26 – whatever pain the UK Climate Change Committee and spurious net-zero target manages to force on this country, the rest of the world will still be pumping out CO2 all the way to 2050. Those without power for the past week know what is coming.
