Late recovery by Swifts nicks point at Penicuik

-

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts put a spanner in the works of Penicuik Athletic’s East of Scotland League Premier Division title challenge as they roared back from 2-0 down in the last seven minutes to take a point at Penicuik Park.

Scott Mccrory-irving put the league leaders ahead on 33 minutes and when Aiden Welsh made it 2-0 just before the hour mark, it looked like the leaders would go on to record their 17th win from 19 games.

Swifts had other ideas and Josh Morris stabbed the ball home after a long throw was flicked on by Pat Scullion before Greig Spence won a point for his side in the third minute of stoppage time.

It was very much two points dropped by the home side with Linlithgow thrashing Musselburgh 6-0 at Olivebank to go second, three points behind them.

Jeanfield Swifts came from behind to beat Blackburn United at New Murrayfield with Dayle Robertson continuing his incredible run in front of goal.

The home side went in front after seven minutes but that was as good as it got for them, Robertson struck his ninth goal for Jeanfield in just four games and an own goal saw Ross Gunnion’s men hit the front.

Robertson then made it 10 in four when he scored Jeanfield’s third.

It was a bad day at the office for Dundonald Bluebell as their inconsistency returned at Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale where former Kelty Hearts man Errol Douglas scored the only goal for Vale as Bluebell went down 1-0.

Crossgates Primrose’s game at Camelon and Hill of Beath Hawthorns trip to Whitehill Welfare were postponed due to Covid issues.

The only First Division Conference A game to survive Covid and the weather was in North East Fife where St Andrews United took on Edinburgh United at Clayton Caravan Park Recreation Ground.

Saints were looking to make it three wins on the bounce but went behind when Sean Guiney put the visitors in front from the penalty spot on 21 minutes. Saints turned the game round in a twominute spell just after the half-hour.

Jake Grady equalised before Edinburgh defender Rob Dowie put the ball in to his own net. Grady made it 3-1 and then completed his hattrick on 61 minutes.

Stephen Scott scored a second goal for Edinburgh before Ciaran Vaughan made it a nervous last five minutes by scoring to make it 4-3.

In Conference B Luncarty came from behind twice to take a point off Glenrothes at Warout Stadium – but the home side were masters of their own downfall.

James Collins changed Kevin Smith and John Martin’s half-time team talk when he put Glens in front but it was Robbie Holden’s words at the break that had the biggest effect as Luncarty were level after just three minutes of the second half as they forced an error and equalised through an own goal.

Graeme Walker put Glens back in front but then missed a penalty and Luncarty came back, equalising through Dan Walker.

Glenrothes dropping points at home gave Oakley United the opportunity to close the gap at the top to two points after they won 3-1 at Stirling University,

Goals from Stuart Love (2) and Craig Martin secured the win for the Fifers.

Lochore Welfare had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw at home to Edinburgh South but only had themselves to blame after missing two penalties. Logan Donaldson and an own goal counted for the Bleachers.

Newburgh went down 4-1 at home to Easthouses Lily.

Andy Reade was the Newburgh scorer with Jason Young, Ali Elliot, Paul Mcdermot and Michael Hunter scoring for the visitors.

Kinnoull had to settle for a point as they had to come from behind to draw at Peebles Rovers.

David Lindsay put Peebles in front after 71 minutes but Liam Wooley equalised for the Perth side four minutes later.
