Plethora of potholes driving motorists round the bend

-

Sir, – I read with interest the article “Calls growing for Fife road repairs”, Courier December 16. In the article, the state of the potholed A907 between Blairhall and Comrie is mentioned as being particularly bad. However, as a driver myself I can say this is a regular occurrence on many roads across the kingdom.

The A909 between Burntisland and Cowdenbeath is another road that is in an atrocious state, as is the one that runs between Crossgates and Auchtertool. I could name many others but the list would be too long.

A lot of the time the council only do temporary repairs to potholes and when the first frost comes along they all pop back out again. This is a false economy.

While more expensive, a longer-lasting repair would give better value for money.

I am considering standing for election to Fife Council in May 2022 as an independent candidate.

I fully support proper repairs to our roads after suffering almost £600 worth of repairs to my own suspension in recent weeks. I am also against unnecessary widening of pavements such as seen between Burntisland and Kinghorn, and unnecessary speed humps.

I am also against traffic lights being added to roundabouts such as at the Sky roundabout in Rosyth.

The money which has been spent on these scandalous schemes could have been better spent on making permanent repairs to some of the many potholed roads across the region.

I would certainly urge the public to carefully consider who they vote for next May and perhaps go for candidates and parties who are more likely to repair the roads than pander to the needs of the green or cycling lobbies.

Alastair Macintyre. Webster Place, Rosyth.
