NUTRITIOUS VENISON READY MEALS

The producers of one of Scotland’s newest food ranges have laid out a guide to the health and environmental benefits of their prime ingredient – Scottish venison – to encourage more Scots to give it a try in 2022.

The Perthshire family behind Findowie Farmhouse, a range of four venison ready meals, which are sourced, made and sold right here in Scotland, believe that if people try swapping out one of their weekly meat meals for a venison meal, they won’t look back.

As Scots think about the positive changes they can make for their health at the start of the new year, founders Colin, Julie and Douglas Nisbet want to raise awareness of venison as a great tasting, sustainable and highly nutritious meat.

Their Findowie Farmhouse ready to eat lasagne, chilli, cottage pie and chausseur champion Scottish produce and venison as an every-day meal, challenging perceptions that venison is a meat reserved for fine dining and ready meals are full of additives and preservatives.

The Nisbets’ five reasons to try venison for a healthier lifestyle are its sustainability, with the meat sourced right here in Scotland, the quality, as venison is usually from field to fork, the health benefits as the meat is high in protein, low in fat, low in sodium and high in B vitamins, iron, potassium and zinc, it has a great taste and it is good value for money.

The range of meals is available in Tesco.

COFFEE AND RUM COMBINE

Arbroath-based Toll House Spirits Ltd, brand owners of the Redcastle range of spirits and liqueurs, has worked in collaboration with another local business to create a coffee rum liquer.

Sacred Grounds Coffee Company, Angus’ first coffee roastery, have long been on Toll House Spirits’ wish list for collaborating.

“Kathryn, one of the directors at Sacred Grounds, and I are good friends and we have often talked about working on a project together,” said Fiona Walsh, one of the directors of Toll House Spirits.

“Throughout lockdown, we were mooting ideas around a coffee gin but then our attentions moved towards our rum, as we saw interest in our award-winning rum grow at the start of 2021. We then set about working on a coffee rum liqueur. We relied heavily on the expertise of the guys at Sacred Grounds and took their advice regarding which coffees would pair well with our Spiced Rum. We eventually found the perfect match – a single estate El Salvador coffee. It’s perfect,” added Fiona.

“We have loved collaborating with the Redcastle team on this exciting launch,” said Kathryn Baker of Sacred Grounds.

The liqueur is available at redcastlegin.co.uk/shop with Ukwide postage available, or from their brand home in Arbroath.
