Ploy designed to subvert democracy
Sir, – The latest sleekit ploy by the Tories is the Election Bill.
This will have the ability to clip the wings of the Electoral Commission so it will now have to report to Michael Gove, who will decide if rules have been broken and what penalties if any, will be imposed.
The EC was an independent body responsible for the integrity of elections and referendums.
Take note of the specific reference to referendums.
Recent polling organised by Westminster on independence here in Scotland clearly showed the Yes vote was likely to succeed next time out – so Gove and Co plan to fix the vote in advance.
Russian influence within the Tories now coming to the fore makes one recall
the words of Joseph Stalin who said: “It is not who votes that count. It is those who count the votes.”
That was scary then, even scarier now.
The EC has seen to be the enemy of the Tories and the Brexiteers as they were fined respectively £17,500 and £70,000 for Boris failing to disclose and keep records of the redecoration of No 10, like who paid for what and records of missing payments as they tried to pull a fast one on election payments.
So here is the Tory revenge now out in the open.
The Tories think the EC is committed to take vigilante hits against them, which is pure fantasy as the EC is actually a paper tiger.
Note the similarities to previous issues, missing documents and bare-faced lies.
As social breakdown continues under the Tories, their flamboyant corrupt
practices, fake news and yet even more lies continue daily as the pressure to erase Scotland and her politics intensifies. Many of these people who steer our lives hide behind the curtain of public life.
These attacks must be taken seriously otherwise our beloved democracy, as we know it, is dead.
